The Annunciation goes to Tokyo

This week Leonardo's Annunciation left the Uffizi Gallery, Florence, to start its journey to Japan in occasion of a trade show promoting Italian culture which will last until mid-June.

Protesters, including the Director of the Uffizi Gallery, Antonio Natali, and Sen Paolo Amato, who chained himself to the entrance of the Gallery, opposed the loan arguing the painting is too fragile to be moved.

The painting was transported in protective crates and insured for 100m euros.

This is the first time ithe Annunciation leaves the Uffizi Gallery since 1945.
